Our 3-day journey from Marrakech to Fes is a beautiful way to discover some of the most spectacular landscapes and cultural highlights of southern and central Morocco. This route combines the High Atlas Mountains, traditional Amazigh villages, historic kasbahs, the Valley of Roses, Dades Valley, Todgha Gorges, the Sahara Desert of Merzouga, the Ziz Valley, the Middle Atlas Mountains and the charming town of Ifrane before arriving in Fes. The journey is designed to give travelers a mix of sightseeing, local culture, mountain scenery and desert experiences, with overnight stays in Dades Valley and a luxury desert camp in Merzouga.
After breakfast, we leave Marrakech and begin our journey toward the High Atlas Mountains, enjoying the changing landscapes as we leave the city behind. Our first stop is Ait Berka View, where we can take some time to admire the mountain scenery and enjoy a photo stop. We then continue toward Ait Brahim Village, passing through traditional mountain landscapes and small Amazigh communities before reaching the famous Tizi n’Tichka Pass, one of the most spectacular mountain roads connecting Marrakech with the southeastern part of Morocco. Along the way, we also stop at a local Argan Oil Cooperative, where we can learn more about the traditional production of argan oil and see some of the products made from the famous Moroccan argan tree. We then continue toward [Ait Ben Haddou], one of Morocco's most impressive fortified villages and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. We spend around one hour walking through the old ksar, exploring its narrow streets, traditional earthen buildings and panoramic views over the surrounding landscape. After visiting Ait Ben Haddou, we stop for lunch before continuing our journey to [Ouarzazate], known as the gateway to the Sahara and one of Morocco's most important destinations for film production. We make a photo stop at Atlas Studios before continuing through the beautiful [Valley of Roses], a region famous for its rose cultivation and traditional rose products. Here, we visit a local rose cooperative and learn about the production of rose water and other products made from locally grown roses. Finally, we continue toward [Dades Valley], where the landscape becomes increasingly dramatic, with red cliffs, green oases and traditional villages. We arrive in Dades Valley in the evening and spend the night in this beautiful part of southern Morocco.
After breakfast, we continue our journey through some of the most spectacular landscapes of southern Morocco. We begin the day by exploring the famous [Tisdrine Roads], a series of dramatic winding roads overlooking the Dades Valley that provide excellent views and great opportunities for photography. We then continue to [Monkey Fingers], one of the most recognizable natural landscapes in Dades Valley, where unusual rock formations rise from the surrounding valley and mountains. After enjoying the scenery, we continue through the valley and stop at a panoramic viewpoint to admire the contrast between the rocky mountains and the green oasis below. Our journey then continues toward [Todgha Gorges], one of the most famous natural attractions in Morocco. We take a walk through the spectacular gorge, surrounded by enormous limestone cliffs, and enjoy the peaceful atmosphere of the Todgha Valley. After our visit, we continue toward Tinjdad, where we stop for lunch before discovering the traditional Khettaras, an ancient underground irrigation system that was developed to transport water through the dry landscapes of southern Morocco. We then continue our journey through Erfoud, a town well known for its fossils, dates and connection with the Sahara region. From Erfoud, we continue toward [Merzouga], the gateway to the famous Erg Chebbi sand dunes. In the afternoon, we enjoy a memorable camel ride through the Sahara Desert, crossing the golden dunes and experiencing the changing colors of the desert as the sun begins to set. After the camel ride, we arrive at our luxury desert camp, where we can relax, enjoy a traditional Moroccan dinner and spend the night under the stars in the heart of the Merzouga desert.
After breakfast, we leave the Sahara and begin the final part of our journey toward Fes. As we leave Merzouga, we travel through the changing landscapes of southeastern Morocco before reaching the beautiful [Ziz Valley], one of the most impressive oasis landscapes in the region. We stop to enjoy the panoramic views over the valley, where palm trees and green agricultural areas contrast with the surrounding dry mountains and rocky landscape. We then continue toward Midelt, a mountain town located between the High Atlas and Middle Atlas ranges, where we stop for lunch at a local restaurant, مطعم باعزيزي, and enjoy a meal before continuing our journey. After lunch, the landscape changes again as we enter the Middle Atlas Mountains and continue toward the [Cedar Forest], an important natural area where travelers can see the famous Barbary macaque monkeys. We have time to enjoy the forest, take pictures and observe the monkeys in their natural surroundings. We then continue toward [Ifrane], one of the most distinctive towns in Morocco, famous for its clean streets, European-style architecture, green spaces and mountain setting. Ifrane is often known by the nickname “Switzerland of Morocco” because of its alpine-style appearance, especially during the colder months. After our visit, we continue our drive toward [Fes], one of Morocco's most historic imperial cities and home to a fascinating old medina, traditional crafts, historic monuments and rich Moroccan culture. We arrive in Fes at the end of the day, marking the end of our memorable 3-day journey from Marrakech through the Atlas Mountains, Dades Valley, Merzouga Sahara and Middle Atlas.
This 3-day Marrakech to Fes tour is ideal for travelers who want to experience several different sides of Morocco in a short period. Instead of simply traveling between Marrakech and Fes, the route allows you to discover the dramatic High Atlas Mountains, visit the historic Ait Ben Haddou, explore Ouarzazate and the Valley of Roses, spend time in Dades Valley and Todgha Gorges, experience a camel ride in the Merzouga Sahara, enjoy the landscapes of the Ziz Valley and Middle Atlas Mountains, meet the Barbary macaques in the Cedar Forest and finish in the historic city of Fes.
